MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has intensified its food safety surveillance drive across Goa, focusing on ensuring safe and hygienic food for consumers.
The inspection drive covered restaurants, retail outlets, food vending establishments and wholesale units across Candolim, Anjuna, Vagator and Mapusa.
During the inspections, 17 food businesses were checked, of which 9 units were directed to suspend operations after serious non-compliances were detected.
The FDA team also revisited the Alankar area in Mapusa to assess compliance by establishments that were earlier directed to shut down. Further inspections were conducted at additional food outlets in the area.
Officials stated that such surveillance drives will continue across Goa to ensure strict compliance with food safety norms. Food business operators have been advised to maintain proper hygiene standards and follow all regulatory requirements.
The department has cautioned that failure to comply with food safety regulations will invite strict action, including penalties and suspension of licences.
