PANAJI: The Directorate of Education has rolled out financial assistance for students studying in Classes I and III in government primary schools across Goa to help them purchase school uniforms and raincoats for the academic year.
Around 8,200 students are expected to benefit from the initiative, with each eligible student set to receive Rs 1,100 directly in their bank accounts through the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS).
The assistance is being provided under the “Goa Mukhyamantri Shiksha Suvidha Yojana,” a scheme implemented through the direct benefit transfer system adopted by the department from last year onwards.
Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, in an official communication, stated that the government has released Rs 90.20 lakh for the programme, and the amount has already been deposited into the Directorate’s designated HDFC Bank account for further distribution.
Under the scheme structure, students will receive Rs 600 towards the purchase of school uniforms and Rs 500 for rainwear.
School heads and Assistant Deputy Education Inspectors (ADEIs) have been instructed to speed up the verification process and complete the transfer of funds to beneficiaries before July 15.
The department has also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that Aadhaar-linked bank account details are submitted to schools without delay to avoid issues during the transfer process.
Education officials have been directed to handle the implementation of the scheme on priority to ensure timely delivery of benefits to students across the State.
