MARGAO: The post-mortem examination of 26-year-old footballer Dailon Carvalho, who collapsed during a football match at Dando Grounds in Benaulim, has not established the exact cause of death, with doctors reserving their opinion pending pathology reports.
The autopsy was conducted on Wednesday at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao.
Speaking after the examination, Dr. Madhu Ghodgirekar said the exact cause of death has been reserved until pathological and expert opinion reports are received.
Doctors found no external injuries on Carvalho’s body during the post-mortem. Further examination is underway to determine whether there was swelling of the head, heart or kidneys, which may help ascertain the cause of death.
Carvalho, a resident of Godgal, Ambaulim in Quepem, had collapsed on the field after attempting to head the ball during a football tournament at Cana, Benaulim, on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to SGDH, where he was declared brought dead.
