CURCHOREM: Former Chairperson of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council demanded proper segregation of garbage waste.
Hodarkar claimed that he is not willing to do politics on the garbage issue but said that things are not being handled in a proper manner.
“Curchorem-Cacora Municipal council has set up a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant, but unfortunately, people are facing problems with regard to sorting and proper disposal of waste. I had just raised this issue, and I did not do any politics on it,” said Hodarkar.
It may be recalled that Minister Nilesh Cabral had advised Hodarkar to learn about the project and segregation of waste.
Hitting back to Cabral, Hodarkar said a diploma holder did not need to tell him about waste segregation recently at a press conference in Curchorem.
Hodarkar further said that in 2019, the court had ordered garbage segregation and removal of encroachments on footpaths, but nothing has been done about it.
He said there was a proposal to set up an unsegregated project in Curchorem but later replaced it with a segregated project.
Garbage is being collected without sorting in many municipal areas in the state, and this project’s capacity is 100 tons.
“If there is an attempt to bring the mixed garbage in Curchorem, we will strongly oppose it,” he said.
Hodarkar has demanded that no one should not try to harass the people of Curchorem by bringing mixed waste from outside to this site.
Hodarkar said Curchorem minister Nilesh Cabral has also done a good job, including the new hospital at Curchorem. He should try to provide better facilities to the people in the existing hospital. “We will not try to do any politics in this,” he said.
