CANDOLIM: Four persons from Gujarat were arrested during a late-night raid conducted by police at an apartment in Candolim for allegedly accepting bets on an ongoing IPL 2026 cricket match.
According to police, the offence was registered at 2.20 am on April 29 based on a state complaint filed by PSI Rajaram Bagkar.
Police said that acting on reliable and specific information about illegal betting activities, a search warrant was obtained from the SDPO Porvorim following which a raid was carried out at Flat No. 508, ‘A’ Block of Botanica Raichandani in Candolim, Bardez.
During the raid conducted between 10.30 pm and 11.55 pm on April 28, the accused were allegedly caught red-handed accepting bets on the IPL Twenty-20 match played between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals using mobile phones, laptops and an Apple iPad.
The accused have been identified as Sohail Rauma (27), Bhaveshkumar Raval (31), Amirkhan Pathan (28) and Kalpesh Mali (24), all residents of Gujarat.
Police seized eight mobile phones, one Apple iPad and two laptops collectively valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh from the premises.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rajaram V. Bagkar.
