PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the state cabinet has approved 50 per cent waiver in shack license fees. The decision was taken today at the cabinet meeting.
“Today, the cabinet has granted approval for 50 per cent waiver in shack license fees wherein it will reduce the burden on shack owners,” said CM Sawant addressing the media.
He further said that the state government knew about the difficult financial situation of the Government on account of the lockdown and the slowdown of the economy; “hence we are not making any financial demands.”
As per the beach shack policy for 2019-22, there are 260 shacks permitted in North Goa and 96 shacks in the South district during this period, with renewals every year.
The Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) of Goa, in representations sent to the Chief Minister, Tourism Minister, Tourism Director and others, has placed several requests for the upcoming season in view of the difficulties they have faced due to the pandemic, which has had a detrimental effect on the tourism sector.
SOWS had also listed out their various grievances while also acknowledging that the State government had reduced the fees for the last tourism season (2020-21).
