“Airports Authority of India, Goa International Airport, received a mail on 4th February 2023 from Mikhil Vasant on behalf of M/s. Katherine Frances Wolfie, a 62-year-old with Reduced Mobility travelling from GOI to LGW with TUI Airlines, said that two Airport staff who provided Special Assistance extorted Rs. 4000/- from the Passenger,” said the AAI release.
Further, it said, the matter has been taken seriously by AAI Goa and investigated the incident.
“Upon Investigation, it has been found that one staff Loader of Ground Handling Agency was assisting the PRM passenger and 02 Persons of the Trolley Retrieving Agency (Agency engaged at the Airport for retrieving the used trollies) were found interacting with said passenger against the norms.AAI Goa strongly condemns such unlawful Acts,” it said.
AAI said the Ground Handling Agency had suspended the staff who was assisting PRM Passenger.
“Also, the Airport Entry Permit (AEP) of 02 Trolley Retrievers were confiscated by AAI Goa and informed the Agency for further action,” it said.
AAI said this is to bring to the Notice of all Passengers that Wheel Chair/PRM Assistance & Trolley Retrieval service at Goa Int’l Airport, Dabolim is Free of Cost. To avert such incidents in future, airline/ Ground Handling Agencies have been sensitised about Assisting PRM Passengers. Also, the ‘NO TIPS PLEASE’ message are being prominently displayed in Terminal Building for awareness of Passengers.
“Airports Authority of India Goa Int’l Airport has taken sleuth of measures for PRM Assistance at Goa Int’l Airport. Dedicated Help Desk for PRM towards the City side, Dedicated Pickup/ drop points for PRM, Ramps for PRM, Tactile Flooring, Braille in Elevators, Restrooms for PRM, Accessible Drinking water facility etc. Assistance for PRM is always a priority at Goa Int’l Airport,” AAI stated.
