PANAJI: A series of awareness and empowerment programmes conducted across Anganwadis in Goa under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative are helping adolescent girls build confidence, improve awareness and strengthen personal safety skills through community-based learning activities.
The initiatives included advanced self-defence training sessions aimed at equipping girls with practical skills to protect themselves and respond confidently in challenging situations. Officials said the programmes were designed to encourage resilience, self-belief and personal safety awareness among young participants.
Interactive sessions were also organised on digital literacy, cybercrime awareness, cyber safety, responsible screen usage and provisions of the PC & PNDT Act. These sessions involved adolescent girls, Anganwadi workers and beneficiaries, focusing on issues that are increasingly relevant in the digital age.
Authorities noted that the programmes witnessed strong participation from local communities, reflecting growing awareness and collective responsibility towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for girls.
Alongside educational sessions, special creative activities and awareness programmes highlighting the importance of the girl child were organised through community engagement initiatives involving children and beneficiaries.
Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane said empowering girls through knowledge, safety awareness and confidence-building was essential for creating a progressive and inclusive society.
“Through our Anganwadis and community-driven initiatives, we are working to ensure that every girl in Goa feels informed, secure and empowered to shape her future,” Rane said.
Officials stated that the initiative goes beyond awareness campaigns and aims to nurture informed, confident and empowered young girls while strengthening community participation in social development.
