PORVORIM: Former Minister Nilesh Cabral said that he resigned from the cabinet as “requested” by the Chief Minister and the High Command in order to allow the BJP to fulfill their “commitments” to those defecting MLAs who had joined the party last year, claiming that “only party loyalists are asked to sacrifice for the betterment.”
The Curchorem MLA explained at a press conference after his resignation that he never would have quit if someone had “forced” him to, and that his resignation was in response to a “request.”
On Sunday, Cabral left the Pramod Sawant-led Cabinet to allow Aleixo Sequeira, a former Congress leader and party colleague, to be appointed as Nuvem MLA.
The party must have conducted research and determined who the original BJP employees were in the cabinet, according to Cabral.Party faithful are always required to make sacrifices. They told me to resign because they believe it will help the party in some way.
“In the end, an MLA’s position is meaningless because they elect them; if my people don’t want me to be an MLA, they will remove me from office in the next election,” he declared.
According to Cabral, he has ensured that his well-wishers and supporters do not oppose the party and that they will continue to work for it until the party stands by them and aids in their progress.
Cabral claimed that as long as he is in politics, former chief minister Manohar Parrikar will serve as his role model.
“Parrikar is my inspiration. and he will serve as my role model in politics for as long as I am involved in it.Pramod Sawant and I have grown together, so he cannot be my role model thus only senior leaders can serve as role models. He has taught me a lot of things.I have been motivated by him.Junior MLAs will look up to Sawant, he said.
Despite being an MLA for a second term, Cabral thanked Parrikar for allowing him to join the State Cabinet for the first time during his tenure.
Cabral said his decision to resign from his post was at the party’s behest and emphasised that he was not treated as a minority leader within the BJP, pointing out that such distinctions do not exist in the party.
He said he will continue to work for his constituency ad accept any responsibility given to him by the party. “I am there with the party for past 16 years. I am a leader, I believe I can deliver,” he added.
Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira will be inducted in his place in the cabinet today evening. When queried about the portfolios for Sequeira, CM Pramod Sawant said, let the swearing-in happen first.
