PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today assured that the Waste Management Corporation will conduct an inspection of the site at Headland Sada where there is non-clearance of RDF/Inert waste by the contractor.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar had raised the issue of non-clearance of RDF/Inert waste by the contractor at Headland Sada.
“I assure an inspection of the site by Waste Management,” assured CM.
According to Minister Babush Monserrate, the contractor claimed to have finished the job. He spent 56 lakhs and 10 cores. Currently, 28 lakhs are still unpaid.
“The job, according to MLA Sankalp, has not been finished. The site has all of the trash. The contractor merely applied mud. The Arabian Sea will receive all of the garbage,’ said Sankalp
He also said that while the MMC report mentions the presence of garbage, the Goa waste management site inspection report makes no reference to RDF.
Monserrate said, the remediation works had commenced in January 2020 and the same was completed in June 2020 during the Peak Covid period.
“Initial estimated quantity as per GWMC survey was 83661.41 m3. While the ongoing work of remediation at the Sada site was undertaken in land bearing Survey No.25/2. The MMC was also dumping daily fresh municipal solid waste above the existing legacy waste dump at the Sada site,” he added
Babush also said that as per the GWMC tender condition, the concerned Local Body/Municipal Council shall obtain Consent to Operate from GSPCB to undertake remediation work.
“Further concern Local Body/ Municipal Council has to provide land for backfilling of inert/compost with NOC from Goa State Pollution Control Board and NOC from the owner of such land if the land does not belong to concern Local Body/ Municipal Council,” he added.
