PANAJI: In a bid to enhance maritime security and strengthen coastal policing capabilities, the Goa Coastal Security Police has initiated specialized Sea Port Awareness Training for its personnel in collaboration with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), Vasco.
The training programme has been launched in line with recommendations made during the DGsP/IGsP Conference-2025 and aims to equip coastal police personnel with the skills required to effectively secure Goa’s 193.97-kilometre coastline and undertake prolonged operational duties at sea.
The five-day training is being conducted in batches of 20 to 25 personnel each and has been designed by Yogesh Parmar, Commandant of the CISF Unit at Mormugao Port Authority. So far, three batches comprising a total of 66 police personnel have successfully completed the programme.
The fourth batch is scheduled to commence training on June 22, 2026, with 25 personnel nominated to participate. Authorities said that around 100 more Coastal Security Police personnel will undergo the training in subsequent batches.
The programme provides both theoretical and practical exposure to various aspects of port security and maritime operations. Key areas covered include access control mechanisms at ports, anti-sabotage measures for handling suspicious objects and devices, monitoring and surveillance through CCTV systems, emergency preparedness and response drills, disaster management, and first-aid procedures.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at familiarising Coastal Security Police personnel with port security protocols, improving inter-agency coordination, enhancing operational efficiency, and strengthening vigilance along Goa’s coastline.
The training is expected to play a significant role in improving the preparedness of coastal police personnel in dealing with security challenges in the maritime domain while ensuring better protection of the state’s coastal assets and infrastructure.
