PANAJI: Announcing that the Government is in the process of reconstructing the historic Nanus Fort of Sattari, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “Dipaji Rane is an inspiration for every Goan. We shall always be indebted to them for their courage, valour and for igniting the light of freedom”.
CM spoke on Thursday about India’s 74th Republic Day, celebrated at Nanus Fort in Sattari.
Laying a wreath on the memorial of Rane’s Revolt, CM Sawant said it is the responsibility of his Government to preserve and protect the ancient house of Dipaji Rane. My Government is in the process of restoring this historic monument. “In this regard, I appeal to the villagers to support the Government and help us acquire land for road construction to this fort. The Archaeological Survey of India or the State Archives and the Archaeology department will be requested to take up the restoration of the same,” said Sawant.
Announcing that a guard of honour will be presented every year in the physical presence of government officials as a part of the State government’s official function, CM said, “The State government has decided to present a guard of honour at the historic structure on this day every year.”
A guard of honour was presented for the first time at the historic Nanus fort in the presence of CM to commemorate a major revolt against Portuguese rule that took place in 1852.
Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary (Protocol), Jaspal Singh, Director General of Police, IPS, along with Former Deputy Speaker Narahari Haldankar, Sarpanch of Bhironda Panchayat Udayasing Rane, Valpoi Municipality Mayor Sehzeen Shaikh, Deputy Mayor Anil Katkar, Suryaji Rao Rane, VMC Councillors, and Panch members of various Panchayats were also present at the occasion.
