PANAJI: The State government today has directed authorities to immediately initiate a special drive and carry out inspections at all road widening areas/ National Highway/ State Highways in their respective jurisdictions and take appropriate action against any illegal land filling activity and constructions.
“The concerned Collector/ Dy. Collectors/ Mamlatdars /Flying Squad are hereby directed to immediately initiate a special drive and carry out inspections at all road widening areas/ National Highway/ State Highways in their respective jurisdictions,” the circular states
It further states that government has issued circulars with respect to strict implementation of the provisions of Land Revenue Code, Code of Comunidade and Goa Land Use (Prohibition on Construction) Act, 1955 from time to time.
“It has now been noticed that there are various instances of illegal filling on the roadside areas along National Highways/ State Highways & illegal mushrooming of various constructions in areas of road widening,” it said
The government said that concerned authorities entrusted with the duty to initiate action, as per law, fail to take appropriate action, thereby encouraging said activities.
The Government has also empowered concerned Collector/ Dy. Collector/ Mamlatdars/Flying Squads to take immediate action against any illegal filling and construction, under Section 6 of Goa Land (Prohibition on Construction) Act, 1955, Section 33 of LRC and Section 17 of TCP Act.
“The Talathis of the concerned areas are duty bound to report such violations for taking immediate action. Further the Mamlatdars are duty bound to file checklist and Dy. Collectors are duty bound to initiate action under Land Revenue Code,” it said
Further, if any violations are noticed, they shall take immediate action in restoration of the land including removing of illegal structures if any, and also necessary action against violators as per law within 48 hrs of the issue of this Circular & further to keep strict vigil through their officers as and when illegal activities/ violations are noticed.
“It is expedient that strict action is initiated as per the above directions within the specified time frame, failing which appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated against the erring officials,” it said
