PANAJI: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has disposed of 165 complaints during the 2025-26 reporting period, even as compensation exceeding Rs 54 lakh recommended in multiple cases is yet to be disbursed.
The details were revealed in the Commission’s 14th annual report submitted to the State Government, which reviewed the functioning of the body between April 2025 and March 2026.
According to the report, the Commission had 81 pending matters at the beginning of the period and received 105 new complaints during the year. A total of 165 cases were subsequently resolved.
The Commission stated that recommendations were issued in 21 matters concerning alleged human rights violations. Out of these, compensation amounting to Rs 10.83 lakh was paid in five cases. However, relief totalling approximately Rs 54.77 lakh recommended in three separate matters is still pending payment.
The report also pointed out that complaints relating to police conduct, unlawful detention, delayed pension and salary disbursement, and denial of access to property continued to feature prominently before the Commission.
Acting Chairperson Desmond D’Costa and Member Pramod Kamat observed that the Commission has played an important role in spreading awareness about constitutional and human rights protections while providing citizens with a forum to seek redressal against alleged excesses by public authorities.
The Commission further acknowledged the support extended by the Goa Government in providing office infrastructure and facilities in Panaji for its functioning.
