PANAJI: “Goa needs skill development institutions in various fields. The Government is contemplating upgrading Engineering Colleges and also the Directorate of Technical Education not just with infrastructure but also upgrading skill development,” said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
He said his Government is making all-out efforts to develop the manpower of the State into skilled manpower with the help of IIT, NIT, GIM, BITS Pilani and other engineering colleges, Committee for which will be formed.
“Futuristic skill development of the State man force is a must, he said. The Prime Minister has given a call for New India formation for which futuristic education needs to be planned. Government cannot do anything alone, he said and sought the support and cooperation of the people and institutions,” he said.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration of FSAI’s Skill Development Centre (FSDC), started by the Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) in association with Goa College of Engineering at Farmagudi, Ponda, today.
Further speaking, Dr Sawant said united efforts are required to make Goa clean, beautiful and safe.
“The signing of MoU between FSAI and Goa College of Engineering in future will get skilled manpower in the State. Already MOU has been signed with one of the national plumbing institutes. Soon one more MOU will be signed with one of the national construction institutes,” he said.
He said that skilled manpower will be developed in the State as a result of these MOUs. He said that the Human Resource Development Foundation will give courses to courses, which is certified by the Government of Goa under the Skill Development Ministry.
CM urged FSAI to start the courses given through FSDC at Industrial Training Institutes of the State Government. The government will consider giving preference to the candidates who have completed this type of Government approved course in the Fire and Emergency Department. He said that recruitment rules will also be changed in the future.
PWD Minister, Nilesh Cabral said we all should work as a team for the overall development of the State and the Nation. He said that Goa is a developing State, and the economy is focused on tourism.
“Goa is a 365 days tourist destination, and we should ensure that they are secure enough with the use of advanced technology in hotels and other places. With the support of everyone will take our nation to a different level,” Cabral said.
Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Dr Vivek Kamat, said, normally, in the fire and security field, all efforts are concentrated on the post-facto actions. But by starting this skill development centre in this field, technical manpower will be developed who will concentrate and put in place solutions that can avoid fire and security issues and contribute to life-related issues to the general public.
