PANAJI: Electricity consumers in Goa with smart meters can now access details of their power usage through the newly launched ‘MhojoSmart Meter’ mobile application, an initiative aimed at making electricity-related information easier to monitor and manage.
The application brings several consumer services together, allowing users to check electricity consumption, monitor voltage levels and review billing information. It also provides access to historical usage records, helping households compare their daily, weekly and monthly consumption.
Consumers can use the platform to view previous meter readings, settle electricity bills and top up prepaid balances. The facility to link multiple electricity connections to a single user profile is another feature of the application. Users can also receive notifications about their consumption and maximum demand.
The Electricity Department said the initiative is intended to give consumers better access to smart meter information and help them make more informed decisions about their electricity usage.
Developed by Esyasoft Technologies Pvt Ltd, the application is managed with support from the department’s internal IT team. Officials have stated that measures have been put in place to support the system’s functioning and reduce the possibility of technical problems.
The launch comes against the backdrop of a contentious smart meter programme in the State. More than one lakh consumers had received smart meters before the department halted further installations amid widespread public resistance.
With access to consumption records and billing details available through the app, households may be able to identify periods of higher electricity use and adjust their consumption accordingly.
The department views the platform as part of its efforts to improve access to electricity services and make billing and consumption information more transparent for consumers. The effectiveness of the initiative will depend on the reliability of the data and the ease with which users can access and operate the application.
