PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the issue of political reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Goa has moved forward following discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to New Delhi.
Sawant stated that the Central Government has already initiated the legal process required for implementing ST political reservation in the Goa Legislative Assembly. He added that he urged the Centre to expedite the process so that the long-standing demand of the tribal community can be fulfilled at the earliest.
According to the Chief Minister, the meeting with the Union Home Minister was constructive, and he received an assurance of full cooperation from the Centre in advancing the matter. He expressed confidence that the necessary legal procedures are being actively pursued and that the reservation mechanism will be implemented once the process is completed.
The Chief Minister said the proposed reservation is an important step toward ensuring greater political representation for tribal communities in Goa and addressing a demand that has been pending for several years.
During his Delhi visit, Sawant also raised concerns over recruitment for outsourced positions at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), urging the Union Education Ministry to review the process and ensure that greater employment opportunities are available to Goan youth.
He further announced that the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Tuem is expected to be inaugurated soon, describing it as a major initiative that will boost investment, industrial development and job creation in the state.
Sawant reiterated the government’s commitment to both the welfare of tribal communities and the creation of employment opportunities for the people of Goa through sustained engagement with the Central Government and ongoing development projects.
