CAVELOSSIM: Goa is looking to move beyond its established pharmaceutical manufacturing base and attract greater investment in research, innovation and advanced technologies, with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant pitching the state as a destination for the next phase of industry growth.
Inaugurating the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) Leadership Summit Goa 2026 at Cavelossim on Friday, Sawant highlighted Goa’s contribution of around 12 per cent to India’s medicine production and called on pharmaceutical companies to expand their investments in the state.
The focus, he indicated, is on translating Goa’s manufacturing strength into broader opportunities in research and development, life sciences, advanced production technologies and exports.
The Chief Minister said partnerships with pharmaceutical companies could strengthen the state’s industrial capabilities while creating specialised employment opportunities for Goan youth. Greater investment in research and innovation would also help expand the sector’s role beyond manufacturing.
Sawant highlighted the potential of Ayurveda alongside modern pharmaceutical research, identifying it as another area for industry collaboration and development.
The summit brought together leaders from India’s pharmaceutical industry to discuss investment, manufacturing expansion, emerging technologies and innovation. The state government used the platform to underline Goa’s existing industrial base and invite companies to explore further opportunities.
For Goa, the next phase of pharmaceutical growth will depend on attracting investment that strengthens research capabilities, supports higher-skilled employment and expands the value generated by the sector within the state.
Sawant reiterated the government’s invitation to industry leaders to invest in Goa, innovate for India and contribute to global healthcare.
