PONDA: All India Congress Committee Minority Department President Imran Pratapgarhi alleges negligence from the state government about the maintenance of historic Safa Masjid.
All India Congress Committee Minority Department (AICCMD) President Imran Pratapgarhi recently visited the historic Safa Masjid at Shapur Ponda.
He was accompanied by Congress Party Ponda Leader Rajesh Verenkar and locals at Shapur Ponda.
During his visit addressing media, Imran Pratpagarhi said that the Safa Masjid is an old heritage-rich place connected with culture and considered identity of Goa. All over India, the oldest Church, Masjids and Temples from Goa are considered the identity of Goa. He said old heritage Safa Masjid is on the verge of destruction and the Congress Party, after coming to power, will take steps to protect it.
He said the Archaeological Survey of India has also failed to properly protect the old heritage site because government intentions do not seem to favour protecting historic places.
He said Government wants history to be wiped out. They have failed to properly protect heritage sites. The government is bringing new projects in Goa with locals having problems due to Coal storage which will also destroy the climate of Goa. The conspiracy hatched to bring new roads in Goa will destroy the heritage of Goa, and due to this, local Goans are unhappy, which can be seen after discussing with the minority community of Goa. He further said Goa protected its beautiful heritage and it needs to be preserved.
It may be recalled that The Safa Masjid’s retaining wall had collapsed, which is still awaiting proper restoration. The plastic covers put on the retaining wall are still lying, giving it an ugly look to this heritage structure.
