CANACONA: On February 19, 2025, the Shivsmarak Cultural and Sports Club in Chaudi, Canacona, will host a grand celebration to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Maratha king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This event, which promises to be a vibrant tribute to Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy, will kick off at 9 am with the worship of his statue, followed by the lighting of the Shivjyot and the distribution of holy offerings at the Shrismarak, Chaudi KTC Bus Stand.
The festivities will include a grand procession starting from Chaudi and winding its way through Nagarcem, Char-Rasta, Cleopatra, Sawantada School, Devki Purush Sabhagruh Patnem, Patnem Junction, Pansulem, Chaudi, Mastimoll Junction, Delem, Khalwade Junction, Shristhal Panchayat, and culminating at the Mallikarjun Devasthan. This procession is a significant part of the celebrations, symbolizing the unity and pride of the community.
In the afternoon, a Shivjayanti-themed fancy dress competition will be held at Ravindra Bhavan, Canacona, catering to children in two age groups: 3 to 10 years and 10 to 16 years. This event aims to engage the younger generation in the rich cultural heritage associated with Shivaji Maharaj.
The evening will feature a Shivjayanti ceremony and prize distribution, with Ramesh Tawadkar, the MLA of Canacona, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries, including CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai, Councilor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, and Deepak Naik Gaonkar, will also be in attendance. Sudarshan Santosh Desai will preside over the event as the organizing president.
The highlight of the evening will be a theatre performance titled ‘Swarajya Surya,’ presented by Ganeshotsav Mandal, Chaudi, and Shivsmarak Cultural & Sports Club, Chaudi, in collaboration with Gajantlaxmi Sports & Cultural Club, Valvai, Ponda. The play, written by Vithal Nagesh Parwadkar and directed by Hemchandra Narayan Tari, will be staged at the Lata Mangeshkar Kalangan, Sanjay Bandekar Sabhagruha, Ravindra Bhavan, Canacona.
The organizers have extended an invitation to all Shiv devotees to participate in these celebrations, urging them to join and pay homage to the revered Maratha king.
