PORVORIM: The Goa bench of the Bombay High Court deferred the Association’s Executive Committee elections, which were scheduled for this Friday, in response to a writ petition filed by cycling enthusiasts led by Chetan Salkar challenging the way the CAG operated.
Salkar expressed his and his co-petitioners’ sense of justice in the verdict, pointing out that their petition had exposed purported Association manipulation of both the elections and the purported misappropriation of cash.
The High Court had ordered all parties involved in the petition to come before the Inspector General (IG) of Societies on October 24 in order to address the issues raised during the hearing. These were connected to such complaints and concerned the purported denial of voting rights to association members.
The HC further ordered that new elections be held as soon as the IG makes a decision on these issues and issues an order.
