PANAJI: Panaji Police have registered a cheating complaint following an allegation by a Karnataka-based man that he was deceived into paying ₹1 crore on the promise of restoring his gaming operation in Goa.
According to the complaint filed by Lalit Bhurat, a resident of Hubli, the incident allegedly took place on December 1, 2025, outside Casino Pride in Panaji.
The complainant alleged that a man identified as Gopal Naik, whose full details are not known, approached him and allegedly represented himself as being associated with Goa Coastal Resorts and Recreation Pvt. Ltd. and its managing director Ashok Wadia.
According to the complaint, Naik allegedly gained the complainant’s confidence by claiming that he could arrange a meeting with Wadia and help restore the complainant’s Ander Bahar gaming operation.
The complainant alleged that based on these representations, he was induced to pay ₹1 crore, following which he realised that he had allegedly been cheated.
The complaint was lodged on September 20, 2026, at around 11.27 pm. Further investigation is in progress under PSI Nitin Naik of Panaji Police.
