PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he knows who filed the court case against the Mhaje Ghar Scheme and said the person’s identity would be revealed “at the appropriate time,” while simultaneously announcing a three-month deadline for the disposal of all pending Kul and Mundkar cases across Goa.
Addressing a public gathering, Sawant alleged that certain individuals were attempting to prevent Goans from securing legal ownership of their homes through the Mhaje Ghar Scheme. He also took a swipe at some opposition MLAs, claiming they opposed the legislation in the Assembly but later participated in distributing application forms under the same scheme.
The Chief Minister said the government has resolved to ensure that all pending Kul and Mundkar cases are disposed of within the next three months and that no such files will remain pending thereafter. He described the move as part of the government’s commitment to providing legal certainty to thousands of families.
Sawant further announced that all eligible applicants under the Mhaje Ghar Scheme will receive their house sanads at their doorsteps within the next six months. He added that the government is also working on a new “Mhajo Flat” Scheme aimed at expanding housing benefits in the state.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said irregularities in the implementation of the 20-Point Programme in Porvorim had been brought to the Chief Minister’s attention, following which corrective measures were taken to ensure eligible beneficiaries received their house sanads.
Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade welcomed the initiative, stating that while he had been unable to secure ownership rights for several families in Pirna during his tenure as Sarpanch and MLA, the present government had fulfilled that long-standing demand by granting house sanads under the Mhaje Ghar Scheme.
He thanked the Chief Minister for enabling families to obtain legal ownership of their homes, calling it a significant step towards resolving decades-old land and housing issues in Goa.
