VASCO: Finally, based on local youth and social activist complaints, the Department of Tourism has asked for an inquiry into illegal activities at Baina beach seashore.
The activist had complained to various authorities, including MPT, Tourism, Mamlatdar etc, on the nefarious activities underway in a structure on the beach wherein access has been blocked to locals.
Moreover, he says a false placard is being used to display names of top political leaders, claiming the structure is for inland ferry services.
“Illegal immigrants are encroaching upon the seashore at Baina beach, obstructing local residents’ access and the tourist’s visitors they have the support of those in power,” alleged Deukar.
Deukar says the illegal activities have been carried out in a place that shows a foundation stone board naming Inland Ferry Services for the public.
The placard also has the names of the elected Goa assembly members and central leaders.
“The encroachment itself falls within 200m of the high tide line, where no construction is permissible as per the CRZ Regulations 2011 and are in gross violation of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, the Goa Panchayat Act, 1994, and Town and Country Planning Act,” he said.
Deukar said the illegally built structure is at the very entrance of the seashore, obstructing the access of local residents and tourist visitors.
Now the tourism department has asked the Chairman, Mormugao Port Trust to inquire into the matter and take appropriate action.
