MOPA: Mopa Airport Police Station has registered a case of alleged illegal basalt stone extraction and mineral theft at Ibrampur village in Pernem.
According to police, Crime No. 19/2026 has been registered under Sections 303(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Goa, Daman and Diu Mines and Minerals Concession Rules, 1985, and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
The offence was registered on May 12 at around 12.40 am based on a complaint filed by Yadhanesh Vazarkar, Junior Geologist attached to the Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panaji.
Police said that during an inspection conducted by officials of the Directorate of Mines and Geology prior to May 11 at around 1.15 pm, illegal extraction activity was allegedly detected at survey numbers 73/2, 74/1, 67/4, 67/6, 66/3 and 64/1 of Ibrampur village in Pernem taluka.
As per the complaint, unknown accused persons, allegedly including the owners of the surveyed properties, excavator operators and the owner of a Tata tipper truck bearing registration number MH-45-AF-9159, were found involved in extracting and transporting basalt stone without obtaining valid permission from the competent authority.
Police stated that the accused allegedly used excavator machines bearing identification numbers HYNDN635EE0005602 and JCB-PUNJS22CLJ2560480 for the illegal activity.
Authorities alleged that the basalt stone was extracted from freshly opened pits and illegally transported, amounting to theft of government-owned mineral resources.
