MAPUSA: Colvale Police has raided an illegal sand mining site at Chapora and have seized a canoe and truck.
As Colvale Police, while performing patrolling duty, received specific information from reliable sources informing that illegal sand extraction and loading sand in the Tipper Truck from Canoe at the bank of Chapora river at Chicklim, Camurlim Bardez Goa is going on.
Accordingly, Shyam Sawant, Assistant Geologist, Dept. of Mines and Geologist and further along with Pravin Gawas, Flying Squad in charge Mamtaldar of Bardez Taluka, Captain of Ports staff, Siolim Coastal staff, conducted the raid.
During the raid, one blue colour Truck bearing Registration No. GA 01 Z 3599 was seen parked half loaded with river sand, and one Blue colour canoe loaded with 8 cubic meters of illegally freshly extracted river sand was attached under the panchanama.
The river sand loaded in the canoe was disposed off by putting it back in the Chapora river as per the direction of the High Court of Bombay at Goa with the help of hired labours, and Tipper Truck was brought to Colvale Police Station for further necessary action.
