CANACONA: The Gram Sabha of Loliem-Polem Panchayat was rocked with queries raised on mass illegalities on important Tourism Polem Coast.
While one group was demanding to develop Polem Coast in the right earnest for tourism, the other group made severe allegations against the panchayat body besides raising different issues and queries.
Anand Pagi of Polem alleged the landlords have blocked the traditional pathway leading to the shore at Polem.
A pathway to a traditional religious structure is also blocked. Similarly, a footbridge has been illegally constructed at this place on this shore, and the tidal water gets stagnant, affecting the nearby house.
A protective cement concrete wall has been erected on this shore, due to which it has become difficult for the fishermen here to bring the boats to the shore, alleged Anand Pagi and Deepak Pagi.
Sarpanch Pratija Bandekar and Panch Ajay Lolyekar assured members that Panchayat will discuss this in its meeting and take a suitable decision Mandal in this regard and in all cases, along with the coastal landowners and the complainants. A survey will be conducted, and all issues will be resolved amicably, assured Sarpanch.
Prashant Pagi demanded that while approving mega projects in the panchayat area, the decision should be taken only in consultation with the villagers.
It’s been a tradition of Loliem-Polem Panchayat that while approving or taking up any major project in the Panchayat area, the matter is discussed in the Gram Sabha before any further decision is taken.
Most of the members appealed to make efforts to bring only pollution-free projects in the village.
Members informed the fisheries department that installed Cages for fish breeding in the high seas off Polem Coas are still lying there.
Coming out hard on the flying of the BJP flag in the panchayat office during elections of Sarpanch and Dy Sarpanch members raised the issue as not correct to do so.
They said Panchayat doesn’t belong to any political party, though members can be affiliated with any particular political entity.
It may be recalled that BJP flags were put up in the panchayat office, particularly in the cabin of Sarpanch after the election of Sarpanch and Dy Sarpanch of Loliem-Polem panchayat.
“It is not correct that the BJP banner was put up after the election of the Sarpanch,” informed Sameer Naik in the Gram Sabha.
Naik further said the Panchayat should not be tied to any political party. The Panchayat belongs to the villagers. The Panchayat cannot belong to any party.
Sarpanch Pratija Bandekar and Panch Ajay Lolyekar soon got up and apologised and informed Gram Sabha that such a mistake would not happen again.
