PANAJI: IMA Goa State today has strongly condemned the violent attack on one of our doctor colleagues on duty at the emergency wing on September 21 at Goa Medical College.
IMA Goa State President Dr Sandesh Chodankar said that the culprit has been booked and is under remand for 14 days.
“Goa medicare service personnel act needs to be revoked against this culprit with punishment deemed fit as per the provision of the act after necessary investigations,” said Chodankar.
He further said that doctors have been a soft target for public rage at times for no fault on our part and lack of understanding on the part of the patient.
“This needs to be stopped. It is high time law enforcing authorities take a strict , stringent action against any such shameful act and set up a precedence to prevent any such mishap in future,” said Dr Chodankar.
Around four in the morning on Saturday, the patient, a tourist from Kerala named Arif Siddique, who is believed to be between the ages of twenty-five and thirty, attempted to slap the doctor, who avoided it but was struck in the chest.
Siddique even made an attempt to attack the doctor by removing the saline drip stand, but other people nearby stopped him before he could do so.
