New Delhi: India secured a hard-fought victory over England, winning 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out after a tense goalless draw in their Hockey Pro League clash on Sunday.
In a tightly contested match, both sides failed to break the deadlock in regulation time, despite creating multiple chances. India held their nerve in the shoot-out, with Abhishek, Shilanand Lakra and Hardik Singh converting their attempts to secure the bonus point.
England started strongly, dominating possession and testing the Indian defence early. Goalkeeper Mohith Shashikumar stood firm, producing a series of sharp saves, including a crucial double stop to deny England in the opening quarter.
India gradually grew into the game, with Abhishek coming close late in the first quarter. However, England continued to apply pressure through sustained attacks and penalty corners, though India’s defensive unit remained disciplined.

Sanjay Karkera made important saves to deny England, while Jarmanpreet Singh delivered a crucial interception to break down a dangerous counterattack. In the closing moments, another penalty corner decision against India was also overturned after review, ensuring the match ended 0-0 in regulation time.
