PANAJI: The state government has informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that installation of digital meters on tourist taxis will be completed by Oct 31, 2021.
The learned Advocate General stated that the process of installation of digital meters will be completed by 31 October.
He also stated that if by this date any taxi owners fail to install the meters, then their permits will be cancelled.
“Up to now, the permits of about 1849 taxis have been cancelled because the taxi owners were not ready to install the digital maters,” said AG
He also informed the HC that if any of these taxi drivers install the digital fare meters, then, liberty may be granted to the State to restore their permits.
“If any of the taxi owners install the digital fare meters, then, obviously their permits can be restored,” the HC said
The State government further submitted that after grant of subsidy on digital meter, many owners of cancelled licence taxis are coming forward for meter installation. However, the licence revocation has not been done yet.
