The joint inspection lasted for a long time and various issues were discussed during the inspection.
The Goa state Commission for protection of Children Rights Chairman Peter Borges said that the commision had taken cognisance of the issue after a 16 year old Vasco student had drowned in the quarry.
” We have seen abandoned quarry in may areas of Goa and death of minor students in quarries across Goa is a matter of concern, especially during monsoons. These water filled isolated quarries are unsupervised, unmanned and there are no signages and hence dangers are not anticipated. We have now suggested that orders be given to WRD department to survey the area and see if the water in the quarry can be given an exit so that water is not filled at these quarries. We are also exploring the possibility of having signages so that preventive measures can be taken ” said Borges
Cortalim MLA Anton Vas said that an expert would be involved to survey the quarry and find the solution to drain out the water from the quarry
” We will take the discussion with the WRD and find a way to drain out this water. The water in the quarry used to flow out from here but we feel that the drainage connecting the quarry nay have been blocked . We will request the WRD for an inspection and find ways to give an exit to this water after which we will try and land fill the area. We will also plan to install danger signages at this area to prevent any deaths due to drowning in this quarry in the near future ” said Vas
