PANAJI: A man wanted in connection with a jewellery fraud case registered in Kerala was traced and apprehended in Goa following a coordinated operation involving the Goa Crime Branch, Calangute Police and Kerala Police.
According to police, the case was registered on May 27, 2026, at Bakel Police Station in Kasargode district, Kerala. The accused allegedly entered a jewellery establishment, selected gold ornaments including rings and a necklace, and presented a fraudulent online payment confirmation before leaving the shop with the valuables. Police said the act amounted to cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Based on intelligence shared by Kerala Police, investigators learned that the suspect, described as a habitual offender with a similar modus operandi, often travelled to Goa after committing such offences.
Acting on the information, Crime Branch Inspector Dattaguru Sawant, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Pikulkar and Head Constable Sandeep Madkaikar, launched a search operation across Panaji and Calangute. They were assisted by Calangute Police Station personnel, including Head Constables Vidyanand Amonkar, Ganpat Tiloji and Amir Garad.
Further inputs indicated that the accused frequently visited casinos and party venues after committing crimes. Police subsequently alerted the managements of casinos and party clubs across the state.
After extensive searches, police received information on May 30 that the suspect was attending a party in Calangute. A team rushed to the location, identified the individual and confirmed him to be the wanted accused from Kerala before taking him into custody.
Kerala Police officers, who were present in Goa during the operation, recovered the stolen gold ornaments from the accused and later escorted him back to Kerala for further legal proceedings.
An IPS officer from Kerala Police, who was personally monitoring the investigation, appreciated the professionalism and cooperation extended by Goa Police during the operation.
The search and apprehension operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rahul Gupta.
