MARGAO: Margao police have registered a case against a man accused of rape, cheating, criminal breach of trust and extortion following a complaint filed by a woman at Margao Town Police Station.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Pappu Ji Tiwari alias Sachdev Tiwari alias Dev Pandit alias Ajay Tiwari, a resident of Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh.
As per the complaint, the incident allegedly took place on June 15, 2024, at a hotel near Gate No. 6 of Margao Railway Station. The complainant alleged that the accused intoxicated her and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
Police further stated that the accused allegedly extorted more than Rs 16 lakh from the complainant.
Margao Town Police have registered Crime No. 48/2026 under Sections 506, 420, 406, 384, 376 and 328 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Aanushka Parab of Margao Town Police Station.
