PANAJI: A man identified as Manoj died after a Maruti Suzuki Baleno car allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner rammed into an art structure, a bus stop and a parked Hero Pleasure scooter near the Panaji Market bus stop in the early hours of October 7, 2026.
According to the complaint lodged by Head Constable Gurudas B. Ghadi (HC-5340) of Panaji Police Station, the incident occurred at around 3.20 am when the accused, Manjeet Singh (28), a resident of Shuklaganj, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was proceeding from Miramar towards Panaji Ferry Point in a car bearing registration number GA-06-F-4401.
The driver allegedly failed to exercise proper care and caution, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into the art structure, bus stop and a Hero Pleasure scooter bearing registration number GA-08-Q-7629.
The impact caused grievous injuries to Manoj, who was sleeping near the art structure. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Panaji Police registered a case under Sections 281 and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Section 185 pertains to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The investigation is being conducted by PSI Deepesh Shetkar.
