CORTALIM: Goa Police have registered an unnatural death case at Verna Police Station after a 46-year-old man was found floating in the Zuari River at Cortalim.
According to police information, Verna P.S. U.D. No. 26/2026 has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Police said that on May 2, 2026 at around 6.32 am, Verna Police received a phone call from PCR Panaji informing that a person was seen floating in the water at Cortalim.
During enquiry, police visited the spot and found a male person lying at the edge of the Zuari River near Canoe Jetty, Cortalim. The deceased was identified as Swami Krishnaiah, 46, a resident of Canoe Jetty, Cortalim and native of Karnataka.
Police enquiry with the roommates of the deceased revealed that he was last seen at his residence on May 1, 2026 at around 10.00 pm. On May 2, 2026 at about 4.00 am, when his roommates got ready to leave for fishing, they reportedly could not find him at the residence. They later searched for him and found him floating in the water near Canoe Jetty.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama over the dead body and preserved the body at South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.
