BICHOLIM: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a local resident in Bicholim after a violent assault on Sunday evening.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Sangeeta Kanojiya (32), a housewife residing at Muslimwada, Bicholim. She alleged that the आरोपी, identified as Shaikh Mohamad Huzef (26), a resident of Katarwada IDC, Bicholim, attacked her husband Vijay Pal (38) at a playground in Katarwada IDC around 6 pm on April 12.
Police said the accused, who resides in the same locality and is reportedly a habitual offender, assaulted the victim with a rubble stone, repeatedly striking him on the head — a vital part of the body — with the intent and knowledge that the act could cause death. The victim sustained serious bleeding injuries in the attack.
Following the complaint, Bicholim police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
A police team led by PI Vijay Rane, along with PSI Rashmir Matondkar and police constables Dayesh Khandeparkar and Sandeep Pirankar, launched a search operation. The accused was traced and arrested in the early hours of April 13 at around 3:10 am.
