PANAJI: Panaji Police Station has registered an offence against a 32-year-old man for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling activities in a public place.
According to police, the accused, identified as Nawazkhan Khanazade, a resident of Reis Magos, was caught red-handed on May 4 at around 6:45 pm near a wine store in Panaji while accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers from members of the public.
Police seized cash amounting to ₹1,300 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles from his possession. The action was initiated based on a state complaint filed by Head Constable Rajesh Shirgaonkar.
The accused was arrested at 7:45 pm and later released on the same day at 7:55 pm after completing legal formalities.
An offence has been registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. Further investigation is being carried out by HC Rajesh Shirgaonkar.
