PORVORIM: In a bid to streamline the shortfall of Tillari raw water, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral today said that he has prepared a master plan to connect Amthane Dam and other local sources to ensure that raw water is available at all times, and this project is likely to be completed by May 2024.
“WRD has prepared a master plan to connect Amthane Dam and other local sources to ensure that raw water is available at all times, and this project is likely to be completed by May 2024,” said Cabral.
He further said that on studying the consumption pattern of Aldona constituency and also other constituencies, it is to make a special mention that although, as per Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO), the average per capita consumption for rural areas is 70 Litres per Capita per Day (lpcd).
“We are supplying treated water at the rate of 150 lpcd. But besides personal consumption, many households are utilizing treated water for kitchen gardens, washing cars etc. etc , due to which the consumers at the tail end suffer,” he added.
Cabral said that due to the stoppage of raw water from the Tillari Water Supply Scheme, there was a drop of 20% in the production of treated water resulting in shortage to the entire Bardez Taluka in general & some localities of Aldona Constituency in particular, which are at the tail end of the water distribution system.
The Minister said that the peak demand of Aldona Constituency is @ 12 MLD. Any peak demand is calculated on the per capita requirement of the inhabited population. When the Raw water supply from Tillari was available, nearly 12.6 MLD treated water was supplied to Aldona Constituency on average, and supply timing ranged from 5 to 10 hours per day, depending on the topography of the locality.
