MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday categorically clarified that the State government’s ‘Mhaje Ghar’ scheme is intended exclusively for the regularisation of houses belonging to Goan residents and not for migrants, seeking to dispel misconceptions surrounding the initiative.
Speaking while distributing house sanads, title documents and class certificates to beneficiaries from Salcete taluka, Sawant said there has been confusion in some quarters that the scheme allows migrants to regularise their houses. He stressed that the objective of the scheme is to provide legal recognition and ownership security to Goan families whose homes remain unregularised.
“The ‘Mhaje Ghar’ scheme is for Goans. It has been introduced to regularise the houses of Goan residents and not migrants,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister said the regularisation process is being carried out for a nominal fee of ₹1,000, making it accessible to eligible beneficiaries. He further announced that the distribution of house sanads in North Goa will begin within the next four days.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the scheme, which seeks to resolve long-pending issues related to house ownership and documentation. By granting sanads and other legal documents, the government aims to provide greater security and certainty to Goan families regarding their properties.
Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira welcomed the initiative and lauded the government for addressing a long-standing concern affecting many households. He urged eligible beneficiaries to avail themselves of the opportunity and complete the regularisation process under the scheme.
The ‘Mhaje Ghar’ initiative is expected to benefit thousands of Goan families by providing legal ownership documents and bringing clarity to property records across the State.
