FATORDA: Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai has echoed Keralam Governor Rajendra Arlekar’s recent observations on the importance of educated youth entering politics, saying the remarks hold relevance in the context of Goa’s present political environment.
Reacting to the Governor’s statement, Sardesai said Arlekar, being originally from Goa, is well aware of how politics functions in the State and understands the concerns surrounding the role played by BJP legislators.
He claimed that several ruling party MLAs have reached office largely through campaign rhetoric and political branding rather than governance capabilities. According to Sardesai, education equips leaders with broader thinking, planning ability and a clearer understanding of public administration, all of which are necessary for the State’s progress.
The Goa Forward leader alleged that many BJP legislators lack independence in decision-making and function only according to party directives. He further accused the ruling party of concentrating on power and financial gains instead of addressing public issues.
Sardesai also raised concerns over unemployment, stating that frustration among young people is growing due to limited job opportunities. He alleged that many youths are compelled to spend large amounts of money to secure employment, while others are now looking towards new political alternatives out of dissatisfaction with existing parties.
Taking a swipe at emerging political groups, he sarcastically referred to one such outfit as the “Cockroach Party of India.”
Highlighting his party’s position, Sardesai said Goa Forward promotes candidates based on merit and educational qualifications rather than caste or community considerations. He added that educated leadership is crucial for creating long-term policies and ensuring Goa moves in a positive direction.
