NANODA: A major road accident was reported at Nanoda after a private mini bus and a Thar vehicle collided head-on, leaving at least 15 passengers injured.
According to local sources, the mini bus was travelling from Asnoda towards Dodamarg when the oncoming Thar rammed into it with great force. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
At the time of the accident, nearly 25 to 30 passengers were travelling in the mini bus. Following the crash, injured passengers were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre at Bicholim for treatment.
Hospital sources said that several injured persons were discharged after primary treatment, while two seriously injured passengers were referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for advanced care. Three other passengers continue to undergo treatment at the Bicholim health centre.
Goa Police have taken the driver of the Thar vehicle into custody. Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, which may have led to the crash.
Residents of the area claimed that accidents of this nature frequently occur during weekends, especially due to reckless and drunken driving by visitors returning from tourist destinations and farmhouse parties.
Locals have now urged Goa Police to intensify patrolling in the area during weekends and take strict action against drunk driving and late-night party-related violations to prevent further mishaps.
