CURCHOREM: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated in the Guardian Angel Educational complex on Thursday, where the members of the management, staff and students of Guardian Angel Primary, High and Higher Secondary School and Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology were present.
Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira was the chief guest and unfurled the National Flag in the presence of Principal of Higher Secondary Fr. Walter Miranda, Headmaster Fr. Jerry Vaz, Principal of IHMCT Fr. Joaaquim Rebello, Assistant Headmistress Digna Dias and senior teacher Martin Barbosa.
Speaking on occasion, Ferreira said that the constitution, which was drafted in 1949, was enforced on 26th January 1950. Explaining the principles of the Preambles (Justice, Equality, Fraternity and Liberty, he said that fair Justice should be given to all, and that means equality. “Fraternity means love of brotherhood and therefore, anybody’s liberty is prevented or curtailed; I certainly go to help those people to ensure that they get liberty.”
He said liberty should not see only in physical form but also in thoughts, words and deeds.
“And I think if it takes deep ideals to your mind, much of your life will revolve around these two values; you all would be good citizens and live as good neighbours to your society. Practice these values of Justice and equality and be kind to your neighbour, and then you will be good to the world. Goans are cherished worldwide because we are good and kind, and we always reciprocate with kindness, which is the hallmark.” Ferreira told the gathering and urged them to hold their talents, lead a good life, and follow the constitution’s values every day to succeed in life.
Teacher Sonia Gomes enlightened more about the significance of republic Day, and later students performed various patriotic songs and dances.
