PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that vacancies at National Institute of Technology Goa have been kept on hold after he raised concerns with the Union Education Minister over opportunities going to candidates from outside Goa.
Speaking after his visit to New Delhi, Sawant said he urged the Centre to review the recruitment process to ensure that Goan youth receive a greater share of employment opportunities at the institute.
The Chief Minister stated that following discussions with the Union Education Ministry, the ongoing recruitment exercise has been temporarily paused. He said the move would provide an opportunity to examine the process and explore ways to enhance local participation in future recruitment.
Sawant noted that the state government has consistently maintained that institutions operating in Goa should create maximum opportunities for qualified local candidates while maintaining merit and institutional standards.
He added that discussions with the Centre are continuing and expressed hope that the revised recruitment process would better address the aspirations of Goan youth.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding employment opportunities for locals and ensuring that concerns regarding recruitment in key institutions are appropriately addressed.
