PANAJI: North Goa Police have arrested four persons, including two alleged drug suppliers, in two separate narcotics cases registered in Mapusa and Anjuna, as part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
Police seized methamphetamine and MDMA worth approximately ₹3 lakh in Mapusa, while an Anjuna operation led to the seizure of 97 LSD paper blots valued at around ₹9.70 lakh. Investigators subsequently traced the alleged sources of the contraband and arrested two alleged suppliers, taking the investigations beyond the initial seizures.
In the Mapusa case, police arrested Zameer Mohammad Sheikh (37), a resident of Mapusa, during a narcotics raid near the New KTC Bus Stand on October 16. The police seized 30 grams of methamphetamine and two grams of MDMA from him.
During the subsequent investigation, police traced the alleged source of the seized drugs to Umar Faruk Gaffar Kacchi (26), a resident of Verla-Canca in Bardez, and arrested him. Both accused have been arrested in Mapusa Police Station Crime No. 142/2026 under Sections 22(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was conducted by a team comprising PSI Bablo Parab, PSI Amey Naik, PSI Utkrantrao Desai and other personnel under the directions of Mapusa Police Station Inspector Anant Gaonkar.
In the second case, Anjuna Police arrested Abhishek Singh (35), a resident of Thane West, Maharashtra, during a raid near the Football Ground in Assagao on October 16. Police seized 97 LSD paper blots valued at approximately ₹9.70 lakh.
According to police, Singh, who studied automation engineering in Pune, was allegedly looking to make easy money through drug peddling as a side business. Further investigation led the police team to trace the alleged supplier, Hasan Imam Shaikh (50), to Mumbai, where he was arrested. Police said the supplier had previously been involved in criminal cases registered by Delhi Police and Mumbai Police.
Both accused have been arrested in Anjuna Police Station Crime No. 119/2026 under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act.
The initial raid was conducted by a team headed by Anjuna Police Station Inspector Krishna P. Sinari, while the subsequent investigation and arrest of the alleged supplier in Mumbai were carried out by a team headed by PSI Amir Taral.
North Goa Police said the operations reflect a strategy of moving beyond individual drug seizures to identify the wider networks involved in the procurement, supply and distribution of narcotic substances. Investigating officers have been directed to pursue backward linkages, identify suppliers and financiers, and conduct inter-state investigations wherever necessary.
The operations were carried out under the supervision of SDPO Mapusa Ashish Shirodkar and Superintendent of Police, North Goa, Rahul Gupta, IPS, under the guidance of DIG Range Ved Prakash Surya, IPS.
North Goa Police said their crackdown on drug trafficking networks would continue under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Further investigation in both cases is in progress.
