VASCO: Against the run of play, when the COVID19 pandemic is declining every day, twenty-four students of BITS, Pilani Goa campus, tested positive for Covid19 infection on Thursday night.
Deputy Collector of Mormugao issued an order to conduct RTPCR tests of the students showing Covid19 symptoms and take preventive measures to stop the spread of this infection to others.
Arjun Harlarnkar BITS Pilani Goa PRO told reporters that utmost care and testing of the students showing symptoms of Covid are underway. The infected students are isolated in their personal rooms.
Harlarnkar also added that the situation on the campus is under control and the classes are ongoing online, and the physical classes are being stopped after the Covid19 infection was detected in the students. He added that the first and secondary sources of infection are being traced, and around 9 more students tested yesterday; their test results are yet to come.
Earlier on Thursday, after learning about this incident, Deputy Collector of Mormugao taluka Dattaraj Gawas Desai issued an order asking the BITS Pilani Goa campus to take utmost precautions to avoid the spread of the Covid19 infection outside the campus and to follow some guidelines such as Home or Institutional quarantine to be assessed and followed strictly in consultation with health authorities.
The order said that no person/transport should be allowed unchecked, Movement of persons only for the emergency services, Recording of details of people moving in and out of campus, All person should be checked at the entrance gate of the campus for fever using a thermal scanner and hand sanitiser to be applied, All persons should compulsorily wear face masks at all times, Physical distance of two meters shall be maintained between the persons, Classes should be conducted online for the next 15 days, No gatherings should be allowed in the campus, Strict vigil to be kept by campus administration and necessary arrangements to be made of food, diet etc. of the positive people.
