PANAJI: Goa Police said that its anti-drug operations in 2024 had been extremely successful, with a total of about Rs 9.81 crore in seizures. Leading the charge, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) seized drugs valued at approximately Rs 6.83 crore, the most of any division.
Other units also made separate seizures: the Crime Branch recovered drugs valued at Rs 65.71 lakh, the Konkan Railway Police seized drugs worth Rs 15.45 lakh, the North Goa Police seized drugs for Rs 1.40 crore, and the South Goa Police confiscated drugs worth Rs 74.76 lakh.
According to information released by the government, the ANC uncovered multiple narcotics networks, registered 30 cases, and detained 34 people. Among these, two significant discoveries were the first seizure of hallucinogenic drugs in India.
Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) in commercial quantities valued at Rs 14 lakh and Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB), also referred to as a “date-rape drug,” valued at Rs 12 lakh. Additionally, two hydroponic cannabis growing facilities in Borim and Paliem were busted by the team.
Additionally, the ANC dismantled a pan-India LSD distribution network and carried out the greatest LSD seizure in Goa. Another well-known operation saw the arrest of Guddu Mochi Ram, a gangster who supplied Goa with ganja from Jharkhand.
Ten foreigners, fifteen people from neighboring states, and eight Goans were among those detained.
As of December 29, 2024, the department’s detection rate for all Indian Penal Code cases was 87.98%, and 2,096 registered cases had been resolved. In addition, by October 2024, 250 instances resulted in convictions.
In 2024, Goa recorded 56 cases for cybercrime offenses, 18 of which “worked out,” resulting in a 35% detection rate and 45 arrests.
