PONDA: Rashtriya OBC Mahasang Goa today demanded the government to immediately frame rules for immediate implementation of the reservation for OBC students for PG courses at GMC from the current academic year.
Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh Convenor Madu Naik and office bearers addressing media said that HC judgment of striking 41 per cent reservation to ST, SC, OBC for PG courses at GMC came as a result of the failure of government to follow necessary procedures.
“Govt failed to frame rules on reservation policy by Administration. It issued a notification in 2007 for reservation. This reservation includes 2 per cent for SC, 12 per cent for ST and 27 per cent for OBC,” the Mahasangh said.
Naik said there are 98 seats at GMC, out of which 48 for all-India levels and 48 for Goan students.
However, as there is no reservation every year, OBC, ST, SC students are deprived of 30 seats, and for the past fourteen years, around 420 students from these communities missed the aportunity to get education at GMC at Post Graduate level.
He said at least Goa CM Pramod Sawant and his cabinet frame the rules and approve them at the earliest so that these students from Backward, SC, and ST communities get justice which is their constitutional right.
At the all-India level, the students from ST, SC, and OBC get a reservation, and the same should be followed in Goa immediately.
He said if the government acts immediately and frames/amend rules, the students will benefit from the year 2021-22 to pursue their higher education.
According to Madu Naik, it is a constitutional right, and nobody will lose due to reservation. The aim of the constitution is to bring social justice
