PANAJI: As the Centre revises its travel guidelines for high-risk countries in the wake of the new COVID19 variant Omicron, the Goa government has alerted the railway and airport Authorities to keep through checks on passengers travelling from the risk areas.
“The government has alerted airport and railway authorities on the new strain of COVID19 and to keep a thorough check on passengers travelling from risk area,” said CM Sawant
He further said that he has fixed a meeting to discuss the new variant of COVID-19 and the measures to curb the spread.
“The meeting will be attended by all the health experts and various other government departments,” he added.
CM Sawant also said that the state government will follow all new guidelines issued by the centre.
People arriving in India by flights from countries where a new strain of coronavirus, ‘Omicron’, has been detected will need to follow certain entry rules. India announced this to check any spread of the new strain amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Health Ministry has classified countries in Europe, including UK, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel as ‘at-risk’.
Earlier today, the central government said it would review the resumption of scheduled international commercial flights.
