PANAJI: Amit Palekar has warned of what he described as an “orchestrated attempt” to disturb communal harmony in Goa amid the ongoing Gautam Khattar controversy, pointing to a surge in provocative content on social media.
Addressing the issue, Palekar claimed that while Khattar was handled “gracefully” by authorities upon being brought to Goa, the narrative has since shifted towards inciting religious sentiments. He alleged that certain miscreants were deliberately posting objectionable remarks targeting deities, often through anonymous or locked profiles, raising concerns about the authenticity and intent behind such accounts.
He cautioned that the pattern of online activity suggests a coordinated effort to inflame passions and divert public attention. “This appears to be a well-planned conspiracy to disrupt Goa’s peace. I appeal to people not to fall prey to such provocations,” Palekar said.
Emphasising Goa’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony, the Congress leader urged citizens to exercise restraint and avoid amplifying unverified or inflammatory content. He also warned that unchecked reactions could play into the hands of those seeking to destabilise the state.
Palekar called on the public to remain vigilant and united, stressing that safeguarding social cohesion is crucial for protecting Goa’s future.
