PERNEM: Mopa Airport Police have registered a case against an airline passenger after an electronic cigarette was allegedly found concealed inside his ankle socks during security screening at Manohar International Airport.

According to police, the complaint was filed by CISF personnel Rahul Layak attached to the airport security unit. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Domestic Security Hold Area of the airport.
Police identified the accused as 27-year-old Ashish Jalan from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, who was scheduled to travel to Jalgaon on a Fly91 flight from Mopa airport.
During frisking and baggage screening, security staff reportedly detected an electronic vape device hidden inside the passenger’s ankle socks. The seized e-cigarette is valued at around Rs 4,200.
Police subsequently registered an offence under provisions of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Ordinance, 2019, relating to possession and transport of banned vaping products.
The accused was served notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS. Police said the investigation has been completed and a chargesheet has already been filed before the JMFC court in Pernem.
The case is being investigated by PSI Viraj Sawant of Mopa Airport Police Station.
